Professor Steven Ley is BP (1702) Professor of Organic Chemistry at the University of Cambridge and a Fellow of Trinity College. He is Past President of the Royal Society of Chemistry and was made CBE in January 2002.

Steven's work is internationally acclaimed and recognised by over 30 major prizes and awards, including the 2003 Ernest Guenther Award in the Chemistry of Natural Products (ACS, USA), and more recently the 2005 Yamada-Koga Prize (Japan Research Foundation for Optically Active Compounds), the 2006 Robert Robinson Award and Medal (RSC, UK), and the Nagoya Gold Medal (Banyu Life Science Foundation International, Japan).

Dr Ian Baxendale is Research Fellow at the University of Cambridge and Dean and Fellow of Sidney Sussex College.

For the past 9 years Ian has led the immobilized reagent/catalyst R&D team in Professor Ley's research group. His areas of technical expertise include novel catalysts, exploratory-phase research, automated synthetic methods, microwave chemistry, chemical analysis and data capture. Ian is currently Director of New Technologies in Professor Ley's group.
